June 28, 2006 - Major Messing and NDCF Senior Fellow Command Sergeant Major Greer flew to Joint Task Force, Guantanamo to meet with JTF Commander, Rear Admiral Harris and tour the Detainee Camp.

Haiti

April 6-8, 2006 - Major Messing conducted medical mission to Sisters of Charity in Port-au-Prince.

March 24, 2006 - Major Messing forward deployed medical supplies destined for Haiti to Miami, Florida in preparation for mission.

November

November 1 - NDCF President Milt Copulos addressed the annual Board of Directors meeting of the Headwaters Resources Corporation in Salt Lake City, Utah speaking on the topic of energy security.

November 7 - NDCF President Milt Copulos briefed Hill staff members on the Future House USA project in Beijing, China. NDCF is part of the consortium building the US entry in the project which is intended to highlight the most advanced energy-efficiency techniques available for housing construction.

November 8 - NDCF President Milt Copulos met with staff members of the House Resources Committee.

November 13-14 - NDCF President Milt Copulos testified at the Interior Department Hearing on Outer Continental Self oil and gas leasing at Norfolk, VA.

November 16 - NDCF President Milt Copulos met with an environmental working Group to discuss the findings of a recent Rand Corporation report on alternative energy.

November 21 - NDCF President Milt Copulos met with officials of the American Council on Renewable Energy to discuss possible areas of future cooperation on energy security.

November 29 - NDCF President Milt Copulos participated in the organizing meeting for the Biomass Coordinating Council in Washington, D.C. NDCF is a founding member of this group which is dedicated to helping develop renewable domestic fuels from biomass.

November 29 - Major Messing attended Heritage Foundation meeting with Pat Boone. Heard him discuss defense and foreign affairs issues from his perspective.

November 30 - NDCF President Milt Copulos participated in the annual meeting of the American Council on Renewable Energy in Washington, D.C. He also met with industry officials to discuss the potential impact of the new Congress on energy policy.

October

October 4 - NDCF President Milt Copulos held discussions with House Resources Committee staff members to follow up on his September 20th testimony on mineral security issues. Later that day he met with industry officials to discuss issues related to minerals development in New Mexico.

October 9-11 - NDCF initiates distribution of an information e-mail concerning the proposed 5-year plan for Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) oil and gas leasing.

October 11 - Major Messing and Milt Copulos met to discuss and plan 2007 activities and goals.

October 12 - NDCF President Milt Copulos discusses OCS leasing with Florida state officials.

October 17 - NDCF President Milt Copulos was a featured speaker on the topic of energy security at a conference in Houston, Texas sponsored by the Consumer Energy Alliance. Other speakers included John Hofmeister, President of Shell Oil, Gerald Shaheen, Chairman of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and Senator John Corny of Texas.

October 18-20 - NDCF President Milt Copulos held a series of meetings in Vancouver, Canada to discuss emerging energy technologies and their place in the U.S. Energy mix.

October 24 - NDCF President Milt Copulos held discussions concerning the creation of a Minerals Information Administration within the Department of the Interior with House Resources Committee staff.

September

September 5 - NDCF President Milt Copulos discussed the urgent problem of our import dependency on strategic and critical minerals with House Resource Committee staff members. One area of focus was the lack of regular information on the extent of our minerals dependency and the nations that are the primary suppliers.

September 6 - Major Messing briefed NDCF Chairman and Congressman Dan Burton and met with NDCF's President Milt Copulos on the Foundation's FY 07 agenda.

September 7 - NDCF President Milt Copulos was asked by Senate Foreign Relations Committee staff member Kristin Sharp to draft an article for a special website Senator Lugar has established to provide a forum for the discussion of key energy issues. She noted that Senator Lugar had requested the article because he frequently cites NDCF statistics in his speeches.

September 10 - NDCF President Milt Copulos and Gal Luft have Op Ed, “Fueling War on the West” Op in the Sunday Edition of the Washington Times. The editorial notes that "We are ending up with 95 percent of the world relying for its economic well-being on decisions made by five or six countries in the Middle East." It also catalogs many of the “hidden costs” of our oil import dependence.

September 13 - NDCF President Milt Copulos met with House Resources Committee staff members Rick Deery and Kathleen Benedetto to discuss minerals security, and the need to improve the flow of information concerning our nation’s dependency on imports for key minerals. It was noted that while many Americans know we import over 65% of our oil, few know that we import 100% of 16 key minerals and that we are dependent on imports for 54% or more of our supplies of 42 key minerals.

September 13 - Major Messing briefed senior Board Member on NDCF activities and Foundation's FY 07 agenda.

September 14 - Major Messing met with a top Washington Reporter to discuss the War on Terrorism.

September 14 - NDCF President Milt Copulos met with Ambassador Curtin Winsor, former Deputy Attorney General George Terwilliger and Andrew Kingston, President of DynaMotive Energy Systems to discuss new energy technologies and their role in reducing the use of imported oil in the non-transportation energy sector.

September 20 - NDCF President Milt Copulos testified before Housed Resources Committee on the need for better information regarding our dependence on imports for key mineral commodities and how a mechanism to provide such information should be structured.

September 20 - Major Messing met with NDCF supporters to brief them on recent and planned future NDCF activities.

September 21 - Major Messing debriefed departing Intern Sarah Gildea and submitted her last writings...then met with another NDCF Board Member.

September 25 - Had another Op-Ed published in Washington Times entitled "Varieties of Democracy" by Sarah Gildea and F. Andy Messing.

September 25 - NDCF President Milt Copulos met with Industry officials regarding the potential contribution of coal to reducing foreign oil import dependence. It was noted that America is the “Saudi Arabia of coal,” with U.S. reserves accounting for over 27% of the world total.

September 27 - Major Messing met with and briefed an NDCF supporter in Florida. Also discussed ideas for additional features on the NDCF web site.

August

August 4-5 - Major Messing went to Houston, Texas to perform the swearing-in ceremony for former intern Robert Paisley as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army Medical Service Corps. Lieutenant Paisley plans to attend medical school and become a Special Forces surgeon.

August 8 - Major Messing had a lunch Meeting with Bob Novak to discuss NDCF projects and perspectives on Defense and Foreign Affairs.

August 11 - Major Messing met with General John Singlaub to discuss "Singlaub Panel " formed by NDCF which helped push the conflict in El Salvador during 1984 toward the correct goal. Additionally, briefed this NDCF Advisor on NDCF projects.

August 16 - Major Messing had Lunch with an Asian area specialist to gather background information about that region.

August 20 - Major Messing had a Joint Op-Ed published in the Washington Times with Greg Winger on War on Terrorism.

August 23 - Major Messing met with Army Special Forces expert to discuss Special Operations goals.

August 27 - Major Messing met with a former NDCF Intern that just returned from Egypt and Israel to receive a briefing on current state of afffairs in those countries.

July

July 6-9 - NDCF President Milt Copulos held a series of meetings at Florida International University in Miami Florida to discuss energy issues in the People’s Republic of China.

July 7 - Major Messing met with a senior DoD official regarding Denton Amendment problems.

July 11-13 - NDCF President Milt Copulos was a featured speaker at the Annual Meeting of the American Solar Energy Society in Denver Colorado. Copulos spoke twice, once on a panel with former CIA Director James Woolsey, Paul Mcready, developer of the Gossamer Albatross, the experimental human-powered aircraft that crossed the English Channel, and then at a plenary session.

July 18 - Major Messing appeared on Fox News to discuss the current conflict in Lebanon between Israeli Defense Forces and Hezbollah.

April 6 - Colonel Cousins presented remarks at the Tallahassee, Florida meeting of the Minerals Management Service regarding the Draft Proposed Plan for the 5-Year Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Gas Leasing Program, 2007-2012.

April 9-13 - NDCF President Milt Copulos was a major participant in the “Power-Gen” conference sponsored by the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE). His activities during the event included:
• Participation in the organizing meeting for the Biomass Coordinating Council;
• Participation in a panel on energy security along with former CIA Director James Woolsey and noted energy expert Amory Lovins;
• Conducting a briefing on alternative energy options for industry executives;
In addition, NDCF made the inaugural presentation of the Michel T. Halbouty Award for outstanding service in promoting energy security. The award is presented annually to one individual and one institution that have made exceptional contributions to improving America’s energy security. The 2006 recipients were Dan Hyde, Transportation Director for the City of Las Vegas for his 13 years of leadership in advancing the use of alternative fuel vehicles, and to the City of Las Vegas for its alternative fueled vehicle program.
